Grove City College prez retiring next year

GROVE CITY, Pa. (AP) — The president of Grove City College plans to retire at the end of this academic year.

Richard Jewell has been president of the private, Christian liberal arts college since 2003.

The 68-year-old Pittsburgh businessman is a 1967 graduate of the school. He announced his plans at the school’s 138th convocation on Tuesday.

Jewell was a director of the forensic accounting firm Navigant Consulting Inc. before taking the Grove City job. He plans to return with his wife to the couple’s home in Bethel Park, a suburb just south of Pittsburgh.

Officials at the school about 55 miles north of Pittsburgh say several buildings have been added to its 174-acre campus during Jewell’s tenure, during which enrollment has increased about 10 percent. The school has about 2,500 full-time students.
