Scrappers postponed by rain in Jamestown
JAMESTOWN, N.Y.
The Mahoning Valley Scrappers’ game Monday night against the Jammers was rained out. The teams are scheduled to play a doubleheader today beginning at 5 p.m. The Scrappers are scheduled to play in Jamestown again Wednesday night then return home Thursday for the final Buck Night of the season.
It will be a special “Buck” night with appearances by former Ohio State football players Courtland Bullard, Rodney Bailey, Mike Wiley and James Cotton. General admission tickets, hot dogs and 12-ounce drinks all cost $1.
Warren Hall of Fame to induct 2013 class
WARREN
The 2013 class of the Warren Sports Hall of Fame will be inducted at a noon luncheon Sept. 7 at DiLucia Banquet Center on Elm Road. A social hour begins at 11 a.m. The inductees will be introduced during a pregame ceremony Sept. 6 before the Warren Harding-Howland football game.
Those being inducted are Tom Batta, Harding football head coach from 1970-72 including the state champion 1971 squad; Alfie Burch, 1989 Western Reserve graduate who earned three letters in basketball and two in football and led the Raiders to the basketball Division I Final Four in 1989; Jim Hilles, Western Reserve football head coach from 1970-71; Dr. Myron Lutz, a 1950 graduate of Harding who lettered in basketball and baseball from 1948-50, helping pitch the Panthers to state runner-up in 1948 and to the Mahoning Valley Baseball League title in 1949; Fred Pisanelli, a 1969 Western Reserve graduate who earned seven letters and was named first team all-state in football as a senior; Robb Schmidt, a 1982 Harding graduate who was sports director at WRRO radio in Warren from 1987-95, was sports director then news anchor at WYTV Channel 27 in Youngstown and then joined Youngstown State University’s athletic department; and Tom Trimbur, who built the volleyball program at Harding from scratch in 1992 into one of the county’s best over six seasons, and also coached basketball for 24 years in the Warren schools.
OHSAA makes state scores available online

The Ohio High School Athletic Association is unveiling a new football statewide scoreboard beginning this week. The scoreboard is updated either from schools entering scores into the myOHSAA online system, which is required, or by schools that use the free Digital Scout football app.

High school football tickets sold during week
Area football fans are reminded that high school football tickets can be bought in advance and are sometimes discounted in price.
Canfield’s athletic office will sell tickets for the Cardinals’ game Friday at Louisville (7:30 p.m. kickoff) all week from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Also, Springfield has student pre-sale tickets for $40 for the Tigers’ game Friday at Brookfield. All tickets at the gate will be $6.
Boardman driver wins Chargers feature race

Joe Grzelak Jr. of Boardman won the Chargers division feature race Saturday at Deerfield Raceway. Other winners were Brian Toto of Kinsman in the Junior Sportsman division, Josh Mueller of alliance in the E-Mods, Nick Groves of Ravenna in the Compacts, D.J. Furney of Malvern in the Micro Sprints, Kenny Meadows of Deerfield in the Classics and Mod Lites, Ty Miller of Uniontown in the Junior Sprints and Clay Riney of Wellsburg, W.Va., in the 600 Micros.
McGrady announces retirement from NBA
Tracy McGrady says he is retiring from the NBA. The seven-time All-Star announced his decision on ESPN and Twitter on Monday morning.
McGrady spent 16 seasons in the NBA playing for the Raptors, Magic, Rockets, Knicks, Pistons and Hawks.
