Cops looking for hit skip car

Police are searching for a car that witnesses say hit a bicycle Thursday on the North Side, whose rider later died.

Officer Brian Booksing of the Accident Investigation Unit said investigators are looking for a 1998-2005 model medium blue Pontiac Grand Am driven by a man. Witnesses say it collided with a bicycle operated by 53-year-old Lori Fiscus of Youngstown about 8:30 p.m. Thursday in the 2500 block of Elm Street.

Fiscus died at St. Elizabeth Health Center over the weekend.

Booksing said the car should have damage to its driver side, hood and windshield. He asked that anyone who knows of the car or knows someone who recently had a windshield repaired call him at 330-742-8775.

Booksing said Fiscus was riding south and the car was traveling north when the car went left of center and collided with the bicycle.

Booksing said several people did see the crash and are cooperating with police. They called 911 right away, and the car sped away toward Logan Avenue and Gypsy Lane, Booksing said.

Although investigators know what car they are looking for, the Grand Am is a popular model and that makes it a little harder to find, said Officer Morris Lee, also of the AIU.

The death of Fiscus gives the city five traffic fatalities in 2013.
