The Ohio State Highway Patrol at Canfield is investigating a one- vehicle traffic accident at 3:58 p.m. Monday on Lockwood Boulevard, south of Shields Road, in which Jason A. Bartholomew, 31, was seriously injured.

The Canfield man, driving a 2002 GMC Sonoma pickup truck, was traveling north on Lockwood when a tree fell on his truck, trapping him inside. The Boardman Fire Department responded and removed the tree from the vehicle.

Bartholomew was taken by ambulance to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Boardman, where he was reported in stable condition late Monday night.

Lockwood was closed overnight from Shields Road to Tippecanoe Road. The Ohio Department of Transportation was scheduled to remove a second tree this morning.

The incident remains under investigation.

Woman killed

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a one-car accident that killed a 22-year-old Cortland woman about 6:30 p.m. Monday on state Route 5 Northeast in the township.

According to a patrol report, a passing motorist, who called 911, said the vehicle was destroyed and the driver was trapped.

The patrol closed Route 5 between Ridge Road Northeast and Route 88 for time after the accident. A patrol spokesman said the woman’s name was not released pending notification of her family.

Man arraigned

Timothy M. Haught, 24, of Indiana Avenue, was arraigned on three charges Monday in Niles Municipal Court after being arrested early Saturday on North Chestnut Avenue.

Police were called to 409 North Chestnut at 1:59 a.m. for shots fired. They found a spent bullet casing in the road and shortly thereafter arrested Haught on felony charges of discharging a firearm on or near prohibited premises, grand theft, and a misdemeanor charge of using weapons while intoxicated. Judge Thomas Townley set bond at $5,000.

Police were called to a home in the 2900 block of Compton Lane where a 20-year-old woman reported that eight or nine people tried to push their way into the house at about 6 p.m. Sunday.

She told police they threatened to do her harm. Witnesses said they mentioned a stabbing involving the father of the victim’s child.

Police arrested Kadijah Henry, 18, of Glendale Avenue, and Kimani Johnson, 22, of East Philadelphia, on misdemeanor charges of menacing. They appeared on the charges Monday in Youngstown Municipal Court.

Bridge reopens today

The bridge on Five Points Hartford Road over Yankee Run, a tributary to the Shenango River, has been replaced and will reopen to the public today.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be at 11:30 a.m. at the bridge, which is near Cadwallader Sonk Road. The bridge reopens after that. The new span is 90 feet long and 38 feet wide. The old bridge was 15 feet wide.

Two young children were taken to a hospital after a three-car accident just before 8 p.m. Monday between Gibson Street and Indianola Avenue on the city’s South Side, according to The Vindicator’s broadcast partner, 21 WFMJ-TV. No other information was available at press time.

An Ohio Avenue man who told police the mother of his child stabbed him after an argument early Sunday afternoon fled from St. Elizabeth Health Center before he could be treated, reports said.

Cameron Dyer, 27, said the woman stabbed him at his home about 12:30 p.m. after a tirade after he asked her to leave.

Reports said she admitted stabbing Dyer and police found a blood-stained knife near a window, reports said. Police arrested Jasmond McCoy, 23, of Warren. She is charged with felonious assault and was taken to Mahoning County jail.

Dyer was sought on a warrant. He was to be taken to the hospital to be treated before he was taken to jail, but he ran to a car in the parking lot and got away, reports said.

Man faces charges

Police arrested James P. Hendrix, 30, of Mable Street, on charges of domestic violence with simple assault, illegal possession of a weapon, possession of marijuana and discharging a firearm on premises after an incident at 3:20 p.m. Monday.

Police said the female victim, also a resident of the Mable Street home, said she and Hendrix, the father of her two children, began to argue. He choked her and bit her right shoulder. Hendrix got the woman’s handgun and went outdoors, where he fired it four to six times. Police arrested Hendrix on Cameron Avenue at Gibson Street. He was taken to Mahoning County jail.
