The Youngstown State soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Canisius on Sunday.
Each team is 1-1.
At 17 minutes, Canisius’ Kelly McMahon scored from 20 yards out on a free kick.
Junior Jackie Podolsky recorded six saves in the loss.
The Penguins posted 10 shots, including five shots on goal.

Eagles release ex-YSU TE Will Shaw
PHILADELPHIA
The Philadelphia Eagles released former Youngstown State tight end Will Shaw.
Shaw signed with the Eagles in mid-May after being released by the Pittsburgh Steelers, who signed him as an undrafted free agent in April. Shaw appeared in all three of the Eagles’ preseason games and made two catches for 13 yards.
“Minor setback for a major comeback!” Shaw tweeted on Sunday afternoon. “Following God’s plan for me.”
Steelers rookie Jones released from hospital
PITTSBURGH
Steelers rookie linebacker Jarvis Jones has been released from the hospital after being treated for a chest injury.
The team said Sunday that tests were negative, but did not say what tests the first-round pick from Georgia underwent or whether he’ll play in the preseason finale Thursday at Carolina.
Jones was hurt when he fell on the ball at the end of a third-quarter interception that was overturned against the Kansas Chiefs. He was on the turf for several minutes but walked off on his own power. He was wheeled out of Heinz Field on a stretcher late Saturday night.
Oakland Raiders cut ex-Brown Josh Cribbs
ALAMEDA, Calif.
Kickoff return specialist Josh Cribbs was released by the Oakland Raiders in a wave of team cuts.
Cribbs had knee surgery in the offseason and signed with the Raiders after eight seasons with the Cleveland Browns. But the 29-year-old struggled to regain his speed in training camp. He also fumbled a kickoff in Friday’s preseason loss to the Chicago Bears. Cribbs’ contract was terminated by the Raiders, leaving him free to sign with any team.

Tejay van Garderen wins USA Pro race
DENVER
American Tejay van Garderen won the USA Pro Challenge on Sunday, finishing in the main pack in the final stage to complete a sweep of the two biggest races in the United States.
Van Garderen, the 25-year-old BMC rider from Bozeman, Mont., led the race for the final four days, finishing 1 minute, 30 seconds ahead of Swiss Mathias Frank.
Chivas USA beats New York Red Bulls 3-2
CARSON, Calif.
Erick Torres scored two goals, the first on a penalty kick, and Chivas USA beat the New York Red Bulls 3-2 on Sunday.
Julio Morales also scored to help Chivas (5-14-6) win for the first time in more than a month and for only the second time since the end of March. Chivas hadn’t scored more than one goal in a game since April 27, a span of 16 games.
