Area artists went “Wild With Style” for a new art show.

The weekend-long gallery exhibit at Lanterman’s Mill in Mill Creek MetroParks was open to amateur artists of any age. First and second prizes were awarded in a youth division and an adult division.

Entries “had to relate to the park in some manner,” said Greg O’Neal, manager of the mill.

The 10 entries in the youth division included drawings, paintings and sculpture. Themes included birds, flowers and park scenes.

There were 15 entries in the adult division. A variety of art mediums — including photography, painting and drawing — were used. Some pieces fit the park theme in a general manner, depicting such things as mushrooms, flowers and trees, while others were more specific to Mill Creek MetroParks including a painting of the covered bridge near the mill and a photo of a water feature at Fellows Riverside Gardens.

Linda Lambert of Bethesda, Md., was in town to visit family and stopped for a tour of the mill. She said it was appealing to see a wide range of age groups in the show.

“All different ages, that’s what’s really neat,” she said.

She also liked the location.

“I think the mill setting for this is just terrific,” Lambert said. “It really showcases both the environment of the park and is great to bring people to the mill.”

Ginger Hagen of Bernardsville, N.J., said the exhibit was nice.

“Very artistic individuals,” she said.

It was Hagen’s first time visiting the mill. Her husband grew up in the area. The art show, set up on the second floor of the mill, was “neat,” she said.

Kylah Helscel took first place in the youth division with a painting called “Birdie Watching Water,” and Allie Sahyoun’s painting titled “Almost Autumn” earned second place.

In the adult division, Sylvia Schezzini earned first place with a painting called “A Tranquil Winter at the Mill,” and second place went to Lisa L. Brickel for her photograph titled “A Mushroom Clique and Shy, Fun Gus.”

The “Wild With Style” art show will take place again next year.
