Copper stolen from house, business in Austintown

AUSTINTOWN — The copper piping of a business and a vacant house in Austintown was taken sometime last week.

An employee of a remodeling company went to Huntmere Avenue house around 2 p.m. Aug. 15 and discovered the door open. The employee realized 250 feet of copper piping from the basement, kitchen and bathroom had been stolen, according to a police report.

A report on the incident was not filed until last Friday because the employee thought it was already done.

Sometime between Aug. 19 and Aug. 23 a building owned by Vinylume Products on Hendricks Road was broken into. An employee of the company reported to Austintown police that an unknown amount of copper piping was taken, along with 12-15 stainless sinks, a cast iron sink and a car battery.

A lock was cut to gain entry into the building, according to a police report.

Both incidents are being investigated.
