For the 17th year, Rodney and Kay Toth, 5637 W. Liberty St., will share the beauty of their gardens with the public. This year, the gardens will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 1.

Their Mexican Fiesta Garden features many specialty Mexican plants such as petunias, sunflowers, corn, sour gherkin cucumbers, pinto beans, purple tomatillo, hibiscus and tomato, and a colorful Mexican quilt.

Several large sections feature a Mexican dahlia garden; the Giant Tomato Forest, which showcases unusual varieties; the Great Gourd Tunnel, which is a 40-foot-long gourd arbor; the Grandchildren’s Garden, which consists of eight triangular sections for the couple’s eight grandchildren; a Super Sky High Sunflower Garden; and the Potpourri Pole covered with Dutchman’s pipe and hyacinth bean.

Vocalist Monica Toth Baker will begin entertaining at 2 p.m. John Schinker from the Men’s Garden Club of Youngstown will present information on mums, and Alice Lang will discuss decorative gourd art.

Ample parking is available, and there is no admission charge. West Liberty Street is also state Route 304, and the Toths’ home is 2.5 miles east of Belmont Avenue. For information or to schedule garden club tours for other days, call Toth at 330-759-1993.
