Nonviolence Parade, rally set for Oct. 6 in Youngstown

The third annual Nonviolence Parade and rally will take place at 3 p.m. Oct. 6.
Mahoning Valley Sojourn to the Past, the City of Youngstown, Youngstown City Schools, the Youngstown State University Office of Diversity and Minority Affairs and the Martin Luther King Jr. Planning Committee are organizing the event. The parade will kick off Nonviolence Week in Ohio, which runs Oct. 6 through 12.
The parade starts on Wood Street in front of YSU’s Williamson College of Business Administration and proceed downtown. The rally will follow.
The parade is open to all nonprofit organizations such as youth groups, athletic teams, church groups, neighborhood block watches and civic organizations as well as businesses, government officials and politicians. There will be an award for the team with the best banner as well as the team with the best float with the theme of “Nonviolence AND Peace.” There is no fee to participate in the parade.
Those who would like to participate by walking, driving a car or truck or creating a float must return the registration form by Sept. 15.
