First Friday Club of Greater Youngstown will begin a new season with Dr. Ed Hahnenberg on Sept. 5 at Antone’s Banquet Centre, 8578 Market St.

The department chairman of Catholic Systematic Theology at John Carroll University in Cleveland will speak on “Lay Ministry.”

The luncheon is from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cost is $15. Reservations must be made by calling 330-533-1023 or visiting www.firstfridayclubofgreater-youngstown.org.

Second Chance

Second Chance Ministry, 1747 S. Raccoon Road, will offer a praise and worship service at 6 p.m. Saturdays and services at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sundays.

The free community luncheons will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Sundays, the second and last Sundays of the month. They previously were Saturdays.

Lunches will be from 1 to 3 p.m. on the third Wednesdays.

On Tuesdays, Bible study is at 10 a.m. and prayer time at 6 p.m.

Outdoor service

Pilgrim Baptist Church, 67 McClure St., Struthers, will have an outdoor service and picnic at 11 a.m. Sunday.

Minister Leroy Vaughn is interim pastor.

CCD volunteers

GIRARD

Volunteers are needed for the first Confraternity of Christian Doctrine class of the year Sept. 8 at St. Rose Church, 48 E. Main St. Contact Sister Kathleen at 330-545-1216.

Registration for CCD classes for students in first through eighth grades is being accepted. Children must be 6 years old by Sept. 30 in order to register for first grade.

The fee is $35 per child or $90 per family of three children or more.

Choir anniversary

The adult choir of Mount Gilead Baptist Church, 2821 Hillman St., will celebrate its 44th anniversary during a program at 4 p.m. Sunday.

Pastor is the Rev. Clifford Kimbrough. Guest speaker will be the Rev. Derrick H. Anderson, pastor of Jerusalem Baptist Church. Clarissa Weatherspoon of Second Baptist Church in Alliance will provide music.

90th anniversary

Butler Memorial Presbyterian Church, 126 E. Rayen Ave., will mark its 90th anniversary during a worship service at 11 a.m. Sunday. A dinner will follow.

Prayer breakfast

The pastor’s aide department at Oak Missionary Baptist Church, 320 Elk St., will host a prayer breakfast at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 31.

Speakers will be Columbus Jones, deacon chairman, and Maurice Feagins, deacon assistant chairman.

Canfield Fair choir

The ecumenical worship service at the Canfield Fair is planned at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 1. Singers are invited to assemble at the stage near the grandstand/concourse.

A choir warmup and rehearsal will begin at 8:45, followed by the presentation of two anthems during the church service.

Participants will be reimbursed their admission fee for that day.

Musical direction and additional special music will be presented by Tom and Kelly Scurich, assisted by accompanist Adrienne Lesnett.
