Ex-player denied release to parents

SHARON, PA.

A former player charged with assaulting his high-school coach has waived his preliminary hearing and will appear Oct. 22 in Mercer County Common Pleas Court, according to The Vindicator’s broadcast partner, 21 WFMJ-TV. A district judge denied a defense motion Friday to have the suspect, Joseph Koscinski, 38, of Sharon, released into the custody of his parents under electronically monitored house arrest in their home. Koscinski, who faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault, in the purported attack earlier this month on Sharon High School Football Coach Jim Wildman, remains jailed in lieu of $200,000 bond. Koscinski, who played for Wildman during the 1990s, is accused of attacking the coach at Wildman’s residence. Authorities say they still are unsure of the motive.
