Youngstown fire lieutenant collapses at fire scene

A city fire lieutenant was taken by ambulance to St. Elizabeth Health Center after he collapsed at a fire about 5:25 a.m. today at 326 E. Judson Ave. on the South Side.
Crews arriving to the vacant home found fire coming from the side of the first floor and were able to get inside and halt the flames before they made it to the second floor.
A witness told firefighters they saw a man with a backpack walking out of the house just before the fire started. The cause is listed as arson and damage is listed at $6,000.
The lieutenant was not identified in fire reports and a message was left in the chief’s office.
