Police took a bulletproof vest early Thursday morning from a man they cited for driving under suspension.

Officers checking the area around 1050 McGuffey Road about 3:45 a.m. saw a car driven by Edward McLane, 27, make an improper turn onto Springdale Avenue and pulled it over at Springdale and Bentley avenues. A records check revealed that McLane has a suspended license.

McLane also was wearing a bulletproof vest and when asked why, he told the officers he has been shot before. The weapons check also revealed that he has been arrested twice for carrying a concealed weapon and once for being a felon in possession of a gun. The record also stated he is a known member of a gang so police took the vest and gave McLane a receipt in case he is able to get it back.
