Jurors deliberate sentence in Afghanistan massacre
JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. (AP) - Jurors at a military base south of Seattle are deliberating whether Staff Sgt. Robert Bales should serve life in prison with or without the chance of parole for the massacre of 16 Afghan civilians. In closing arguments today, Army prosecutors said Bales was a man of no moral compass, whose own “stomach churning” words proved he knew what he was doing when he set out to attack two villages before dawn on March 11, 2012.
