Corrections officer accused of taking bribes

CLEVELAND

A Northeast Ohio corrections officer accused of taking bribes in return for helping inmates has been indicted on 10 counts of bribery and other charges.

The Plain Dealer in Cleveland reports that 40-year-old Tim Thomas on Thursday was indicted by a Cuyahoga County grand jury on charges including tampering with records and obstructing justice.

Thomas worked in the Cuyahoga County Jail for almost 20 years. His court records do not list an attorney.

The county prosecutor’s office says Thomas allegedly accepted at least $2,000 in cash and a used car worth about $500 in exchange for giving an inmate special treatment.

Authorities also say Thomas allegedly helped delay an inmate’s transfer from the county jail to a state prison.
