A man who pleaded guilty to charges he was involved in a shooting incident at an Austintown nightclub in 2011 was sentenced to five years in prison by Judge Maureen Sweeney of Mahoning County Court of Common Pleas.

Eddie DeJesus, 22, of Campbell, was given a two-year sentence for felonious assault plus a three-year mandatory sentence for using a firearm.

He was one of three men charged with firing a shot at an Austintown police officer in April 2011 and leading them on a chase on Interstate 80, after the officer heard a shot and saw someone running with a gun in the parking lot of the Go Go Cabaret and Lounge.

The other two men have pleaded guilty and have yet to be sentenced.

Reports said the officer thought he saw someone with a gun in the parking lot and heard shots, and drove toward them as a man with a gun ran inside the club. He then saw a vehicle and followed it onto Interstate 80 and saw a flash, like the muzzle flash of a gun, reports said.

Police, with the help of state troopers, managed to pull the car over.

A .40-caliber handgun was found near where the car pulled off the interstate.
