POLAND

Shannon Miller had two goals and an assist for Poland (1-0) in a victory over West Branch (0-1). Montana Gessler added the third goal for Poland in the win. West Branch was led by Bailey Polinori and Melinda Trimmer, who each scored once. JV: West Branch 3-0.

Hubbard 10, Girard 0

GIRARD

Senior Melissa Thomas had four goals and an assist to lead Hubbard (1-0) to a blowout victory over Girard (0-1). Amber Mierzwa and Marissa Grande each had two goals and an assist for Hubbard. Despite allowing 10 goals, Girard’s Jenna Dodson had 23 saves on the night.

Lakeview 2, Niles 1

CORTLAND

Alli Pavlik converted on a penalty kick that was the difference for Lakeview (2-0) against Niles (0-1). She also added an assist on a goal by Rachel Braunegg. Miranda Meffe made five saves for the Bulldogs. Taylor Stewart had the goal for Niles on an assist by Mackenzie Cowell. Paige Freel made five saves for the Dragons. JV: Niles 2-0.

Maplewood 1, Struthers 0

STRUTHERS

The lone goal of the night was scored by Maplewood’s Emily Peterson in the first half of a 1-0 win over Struthers. Rachael Leonard had eight saves for Struthers in the loss.

Badger 5, Warren JFK 0

KINSMAN

Holly Masters scored three goals and Izabella Armstrong recorded 16 saves to lead Badger to its season-opening victory. Haley Wilson and Alyssa Osborne also scored and Jennilyn Krumpe, Samantha Greathouse, Ellie LaPlante and April Larrison provided assists. Calie Kovash had eight saves for Kennedy and Elizabeth Keller had two.

Columbiana 3, Conneaut 2

CONNEAUT

Skye Kramer scored all three goals as the Clippers won their opener on the road. Rylee Pancake had an assist. Sara Nutter had five saves for Columbiana.

Rootstown 6, Newton Falls 1

NEWTON FALLS

Toni Dixon and Jacqueline Moss each netted two goals to lead Rootstown (1-0) over Newton Falls (0-1). Trezla Mulekaker and Jasmine Kemp added the other two goals for Rootstown, while Madison Hartung stopped five shots. Alissa Abraham scored the lone goal for Newton Falls on an assist from Jessica Wheat. JV: Newton Falls 2-1.

BOYS

Heartland Christian 8, American Spirit 0

EAST LIVERPOOL

Heartland Christian opened its season with a shutout. Durand Winnale scored three goals, Daniel Brandenstein scored twice and single goals were added by Seth Ogden, Matt Leach, and Caleb House. Assists were registered by Emma Donkin, Matt Leach (two) and Caleb House (two). Goalkeeper Drew Fountain preserved the shutout with seven saves.
