McDONALD

The McDonald board of education Monday increased Superintendent Ken Halbert’s salary and extended his contract.

The superintendent’s salary was increased from $42,000 to $52,000 and his work days to an additional ten days a year, increasing from 120 days to 130 days.

The board has given itself the option of purchasing more days of work from the superintendent. His per diem rate had been $350 under the old contract, but will be $400 a day under his new contract.

Halbert’s contract had been from June 21, 2011, to July 31, 2014, but has been extended through July 31, 2016.

The board also approved a roster of seven McDonald Village police officers who would be available for Campus Patrol at the high school and Roosevelt Elementary School for the 2013 to 2014 school year.

Only one officer at a time patrols the school buildings, and the board approved a pay of $25 an hour for the job.

Schools treasurer Bill Johnson said the patrol officer for the day goes between the high school and Roosevelt, checking the schools and the parking lots. The patrolling of local schools began in February.

The board approved a new three-year contract with Waste Management of North Jackson for waste removal services and containers. Starting July 1, 2013, and ending June 30, 2016.The cost to the district last year was $4,995.

Two large trash containers are located outside, one behind the high school and another behind Roosevelt Elementary.
