A Boardman man was sentenced to two years in prison Friday after pleading guilty to charges he injured his infant son.
Sam Lippillo, 30, of Meadowbrook Avenue, was sentenced by Judge R. Scott Krichbaum of Mahoning County Common Pleas court for a count of child endangering.
Lippillo took his son, then 3 months, to Akron Childrens Hospital Boardman Campus in March. The boy was unconscious and not breathing. Lippillo told hospital workers he was sleeping on a couch when the dog jumped on him and the baby fell on the floor.
A CAT scan showed nine rib fractures as well as “multiple brain bleeds which appear to be from previous injuries,” reports said. Police said the injuries were similar to shaken baby syndrome.
The boy was treated at Akron Childrens Hospital and placed in foster care. Lippillo was indicted in May by a grand jury.
A spokesman for Judge Krichbaum said the child’s mother was at the hearing Friday and asked for less time, but the judge would not grant her request.
