A city man was charged with felonious assault after being accused of striking another man in the head with a beer mug early Saturday.

Alejandro Cruz, 27, is accused of hitting the man in an incident at Brickhouse Tavern at 958 E. Midlothian Boulevard at 2:05 a.m. Saturday, according to a police report.

When police arrived, the victim had a severe laceration on his head. Cruz was asked if he had struck the victim in the head with a beer mug and responded, “No, but if I did he deserved it,” according to the report.

Cruz was arrested at the scene and while on the way to the Mahoning County jail, he started yelling, “You’re going to die. You’re all going to die,” according to the report. Once at the jail, an “extremely intoxicated” Cruz continued to threaten jailers while being booked.
