3 Crosscutters pitchers no-hit Scrappers

WILLIAMSPORT, PA.

Three Williamsport pitchers teamed up to fire a no-hitter at the Mahoning Valley Scrappers on Sunday in New York-Penn League action.

Yacksel Rios (4-2) tossed the first five innings, striking out six batters and walking three in the Crosscutters’ 8-0 victory.

Mark Meadors relieved him in the sixth inning and pitched three innings. He struck out three batters. Manny Martinez closed the game in the ninth inning.

The Crosscutters (28-29) scored single runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings then added five more in the eighth inning.

Gustavo Martinez led the Crosscutters’ attack with three hits, two RBIs and two runs scored. One of his hits was a double. Justin Parr and Samuel Hiciano also doubled.

For the Scrappers (23-33), Nellie Rodriguez opened the second inning with a walk to become his team’s first baserunner. He was picked off.
