School supplies needed

WARREN

The Warren Family Mission will accept school supplies from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday at the 2671 Youngstown Road location and this weekend at the 361 Elm Road location.

The mission was able to help 400 children last year and hopes to do the same this year.

Items needed include book bags, notebooks, loose paper, pens, pencils, glue, glue sticks, calculators, rulers, scissors, washable markers, folders, binders, pencil boxes, colored pencils, protractors, compasses, book covers, erasers, hand sanitizer and tissues.

New Castle Has Talent

New Castle, Pa.

A “New Castle Has Talent 2” show will be in the auditorium of the Ben Franklin Early Learning Center, 815 Cunningham Ave., starting 6 p.m. Aug. 31. Doors to the auditorium will open at 5:30 p.m.

Cost is $5 per person. Discounts will be available for individuals in the military and service professionals such as firefighters and police.

The event will offer entertainment, creative expressions, food, basket auctions and raffles. An artist will be available to draw caricatures for guests.

Child-support day

YOUNGSTOWN

The Mahoning County Child Support Enforcement Agency will conduct its Child Support Awareness Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday in Oakhill Renaissance Place, Conference Room A, 345 Oak Hill Ave. The agency will offer information about its programs and services to families with support orders or who wish to establish such orders.

Educators invited

Youngstown

Mahoning Valley educators are invited to attend an open house at OH WOW! The Roger & Gloria Jones Children’s Center for Science & Technology, 11 W. Federal St., from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday to learn about educational field trips and programming for the 2013-14 school year.

Educators can visit OH WOW! any time between 4 and 7 p.m. with a copy of their school ID or a copy of their teaching license and receive free general admission, hands-on activities and demonstrations, a chance to win a free classroom field trip and complimentary refreshments.

Road closing

WEST point

State Route 518 will be closed during daytime hours Wednesday in West Point in Madison Township for three culvert replacements.

Maintenance crews with the Ohio Department of Transportation will close the road and begin work near 7 a.m.

Beginning at the intersection of Route 518 and state Route 164, traffic will be detoured north on Route 164 to U.S. Route 30 in Lisbon, then east on Route 30 back to Route 518.

The roadway should be reopened to traffic by 6 p.m., ODOT officials said in a press release.

Elections board to meet

WARREN

The Trumbull County Board of Elections will meet at 10 a.m. Monday to certify candidates in nonpartisan races, issues and local options for the Nov. 5 election, review precinct- election-official evaluations from the primary election, review board members’ salary and other items.

The board meets at 2947 Youngstown Road SE.
