Liberty Mutual shuts down after finding bacteria

Staff report

Neshannock

Bacteria-infected water has caused Liberty Mutual on Wilmington Road in Neshannock Township to shutdown until at least Aug. 22.

The Vindicator’s broadcast partner, 21 WFMJ-TV, reports during a testing of the building’s water tower, a bacteria that can cause Legionnaires’ disease was found. The state and Lawrence County health departments are conducting further testing on the water while the building is closed.

The bacteria causing the disease is called legionella and is naturally found in warm water, according to WFMJ.

All of the 700 employees who work at Liberty Mutual will be paid on their time off, and some are being asked to work in other offices until the problem is fixed.

For updates, employees should call 1-866-486-2063.
