The first 10 individuals, businesses or groups that purchase a new Gridiron Club membership at the Emperor level or higher to the YSU Penguin Club will receive two tickets to the Youngstown State at Michigan State football game on Sept 14. at 2 p.m. at Spartan Stadium.

In order to be eligible for the promotion, new members must email their contact information to Tom Morella at tmorella@ysu.edu and he will follow up to secure your membership and tickets.

Regular season tickets are still available by contacting the YSU Athletics Ticket Office at 330-941-1YSU.

Greatest Golfer to close Mill Creek Golf Course

Both the North and South courses at Mill Creek Golf Course will be closed all day on August 23 as it plays host to the Greatest Golfer in the Valley round one competition.

The fifth edition of the event will feature “410” Sprint Cars and DIRTcar Big-Block Modifieds.

Mistake admitted in America’s Cup scandal

The America’s Cup Measurement Committee has admitted it made a mistake and that one of the three prototype boats owned by defending champion Oracle Team USA was not illegally modified during warm-up regattas last year.

It’s not known how the admission might sway an international jury’s investigation into who modified the boats.

But Oracle Team USA CEO Russell Coutts tells The Associated Press that the admission should clarify that it was not a team-wide issue.

The two remaining challengers, Emirates Team New Zealand and Italy’s Luna Rossa, have both accused Oracle Team USA of cheating.

Although the boats competed in warm-up regattas, the jury could punish Oracle Team USA with sanctions that could include a fine, forfeiture of races in the best-of-17 America’s Cup match or disqualification.

US team official Klier banned for doping

Retired German cyclist Andreas Klier has accepted a six-month ban after admitting to doping during his career.

The U.S. Anti-Doping Agency says the 37-year-old Klier — who works for American team Garmin-Sharp as a sporting director — told the agency he used EPO, human growth hormone, cortisone and blood transfusions from 1999-2006.

Klier forfeits all results obtained from July 2005, including a stage win at the 2007 Spanish Vuelta.

USADA chief executive Travis Tygart says in a statement that the agency appreciates Klier’s “willingness to provide full and truthful testimony about the culture of drug use in cycling.”

He retired from riding in April.

Soccer help sought

FIFA says six players and officials from visiting Arab teams still require Israeli permission to attend a youth soccer tournament hosted by the Palestine Football Association.

PFA President Jibril Rajoub asked FIFA to suspend Israel over the issue on Thursday.

The tournament, organized by the West Asian Football Federation and held in the West Bank, includes the Under-16 teams of Palestine, Iraq, Jordan and the United Arab Emirates.

FIFA asked the Israel Football Association for its “good offices,” sending a list of 29 people who didn’t have authorization to attend. It says six still haven’t been cleared.
