Endeka Entertainment and Penn National Gaming Co. expect to employ 1,686 people and spend $220.8 million during the construction phase of the Lawrence Downs Casino and Racing Resort, according to a report the companies filed with the Pennsylvania Gaming Commission.

Once operating, it would have an annual economic impact of $74.7 million statewide and would employ 725 statewide, according to the report.

The facility, if approved, will be located near the intersection of US Route 422 and Pa. Route 551 in Mahoning Township.

Things Remembered recruiting workers

The Things Remembered Fulfillment Center in North Jackson is starting to recruit for 300 seasonal workers it plans to hire this year. The company is working with the Mahoning County One-Stop Workforce Center to conduct its recruiting. Things Remembered is hiring customer-service representatives, engravers/monogrammers and shipper/packers.

Recruiting events will be Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Sept. 12 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Sept. 26 from noon to 4 p.m.; Oct. 10 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; and Oct. 31 from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Applications can be filled out before the event at the One-Stop office or online at www.thingsremembered.jobs. One-Stop is located at 141 Boardman-Canfield Road in Boardman.

Greenhouse receives Agriculture grant

Frank Lonardo’s Greenhouse of Youngstown has received a grant of $13,045 from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to install a solar PV system (solar generator), which will generate 9,765 kilowatt-hours of energy.

The grant was one of two rural development grants announced Friday by U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan of Niles, D-13th. The other company was Stroup Farms Inc. of Atwater, which received a grant of $11,791 to replace an inefficient grain dryer, saving it 89,328 kwhs of energy.

Consumers declares quarterly dividend

The board of directors of Consumers Bancorp Inc., the holding company for Consumers National Bank, declared a quarterly dividend on the outstanding shares of the corporation’s common stock of 12 cents per share Wednesday.

The dividend is payable Sept. 13 to those who own stock at the close of business Aug. 26.

Dow Jones slips to worst week of 2013

NEW YORK

Stocks fell Friday, closing out what was the worst week of the year for the Dow Jones industrial average.

The market was dragged lower by a weak performance from retailers and companies sensitive to higher interest rates. Homebuilders and banking stocks were among the best performers.
