Doubledays’ Voth shuts down Scrappers

Austin Voth struck out 11 Scrappers over six innings to help lead the Auburn Doubledays to a 6-1 victory in a New York-Penn League game Friday at Falcon Park.

Claudio Bautista tripled and scored, James Roberts drove in a run and Juan Romero had two hits for Mahoning Valley (23-31).

Michael Goodnight (0-1) gave up five runs on five hits, two walks and a strikeout in the sixth inning to get the loss.

Luis Lugo started and gave up one run on four hits, two walks and three strikeouts in 42/3 innings for the Scrappers.

Greg Zebrack doubled, tripled, scored and drove in two runs for Auburn (19-36). Matt Foat, Jean Carlos Valdez and Austin Chubb also had two hits for the Doubledays.

Voth (2-0) went six innings, giving up one run on five hits and a walk. Cory Bafidis pitched two innings of scoreless relief and Silvio Medina pitched around two walks in the ninth to close it out.
