Feds say NY escape robbed northeastern Pa. bank

SCRANTON, Pa. (AP) — Federal authorities say a Brooklyn, N.Y. man robbed a northeastern Pennsylvania bank after escaping from a nearby halfway house in June.

Online court records don’t list an attorney for 36-year-old Romeal Price, who was charged in U.S. District Court in Scranton with robbing the Pennstar Bank in Dunmore on June 28.

Authorities say Price took $11,000 in that robbery, 10 days after he escaped from a federal halfway house in Scranton, the Catholic Social Services Residential Re-entry Center. Price was finishing up a federal prison term imposed in 2001 for drug and firearms violations when he escaped from the halfway house, where he was supposed to remain until Sept. 22.

Price returned to New York where he was arrested July 17 by U.S. marshals.

He was returned to Pennsylvania to face the new charges Wednesday.
