FAST is fastest at YSL Championship

Firestone Area Swim Team won the Youngstown Swim League’s championship meet at Logan Swim Club.

More than 700 swimmers competed on 10 teams.

FAST finished the season undefeated.

Canfield Swim and Tennis Club finished second, 19 points behind FAST. Boardman Swim and Tennis Club was third.

Three meet records were set. Emily Thirion of Warren Olympic Club set the 15-18 girls 50 meter breaststroke record with a time of 34.18.

FAST’s Jordan Stackpole, 11, set the boys 11-12 50 meter butterfly record in 30.99. The Columbiana swimmer also was part of the record-setting 11-12 year old boys 200 meter free relay team (2:07.87) that included Matthew DunLany of Boardman, Andrew Zimmerman of Salem and Jacob Kountz of Poland.

Stackpole set either a team or pool record in every meet he competed in this season.

He set four FAST yard records and a meet record in the 11-12 boys 50 yard butterfly at the YSL Pentathlon held at Youngstown State University. Stackpole was named male swimmer of the meet.

FAST teammate Rachel Klem won the 9-10 girls age group at the YSU event. She set a meet record in the 50-yard breaststroke and was named female swimmer of the meet.

FAST, the only public pool that competes in the YSL, is led by co-head coaches Erin Parker of Boardman and Susan Nutter of Lisbon.

Assistant coaches are Eric Bable of Columbiana, Michael Bleggi of Canfield and Rachel Emerson of Leetonia.
