SOUTHINGTON
A Garrettsville woman was killed while walking across U.S. Route 422 at 11:26 p.m. Wednesday.
Christine R. Pettry, 42, was walking northbound on Route 422 near Leiby Osborne Road with two young relatives and a family friend when she attempted to cross the westbound lanes of 422 and was struck and killed.
Amanda L. Mattson, 27, of Burton, was driving the 2001 Toyota Camry that struck Pettry, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Southington Post. Shortly after the first collision, Pettry was struck by another westbound vehicle, but preliminary investigation indicates Pettry was deceased before being struck again.
The highway patrol says it does not suspect drugs or alcohol to have been a factor regarding either motorist involved, but toxicology results are pending for Pettry.
