Three potential school board candidates off the ballot in Mahoning County

YOUNGSTOWN — The Mahoning County Board of Elections disqualified three potential school board candidates today because of problems with their nominating petitions.

Tiffany Harris, who filed for a Youngstown school board seat, didn’t have enough valid signatures to get on the ballot. That leaves four candidates for three spots on the board for the Nov. 5 election.

Mark S. Hall, who sought to run for re-election for a Western Reserve school board position, also didn’t have enough valid signatures on his nominating petitions. That leaves only two candidates for three seats on that school board.

Aug. 26 is the deadline for those who want to run for school board seats as write-in candidates.

Also, Tom Huff, who filed to run for a spot on the Jackson-Milton school board, failed to include the number of signatures on his nominating petitions. That’s an automatic disqualification under state elections law, said Mark Munroe, the board’s chairman.

With Huff off the ballot, five candidates for three seats on that school board remain.
