Police morning had to tackle a man early Monday who ran from them while officers were investigating a parked car on the South Side.
An officer spotted two men walking up to a car in the 200 block of East Florida Avenue about 12:20 a.m. and stopped to investigate because of the lateness of the hour and also because of drug activity in the neighborhood.
As he was talking to the men, an SUV appeared and drove over the sidewalk and into the front yard of a nearby vacant home.
Officers then questioned the driver of the SUV, 36-year-old Samuel “Tank” Collier of Youngstown, who told police he left his license at home before sprinting away.
Police chased him through several yards, and he went through a patch of thick undergrowth, reports said. He was hit with an electronic stun device but kept going until he fell down a hill and was tackled by an officer when he tried to get up.
He was booked into the Mahoning County jail for the charges of driving under suspension, failure to comply and resisting arrest.
A passenger in the SUV encouraged Collier to run, reports said. He was not taken into custody.
