Pa. storms strand motorists in flash flooding

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Lots of morning commuters in southeastern Pennsylvania arrived late at work today, courtesy of torrential rush-hour downpours that flooded small streets and busy highways and caused public transit delays through much of the five-county Philadelphia region.

The National Weather Service says as much as 6 1/2 inches of rain fell in some parts of the Philadelphia suburbs, leaving drivers stranded and causing creeks to overflow.

The storm system has moved out but forecasters say there’s still a risk of flooding in some areas that are flood-prone.
