Ohio man dies after stunned during police scuffle

CINCINNATI (AP) — The son of an Ohio man who died after being shocked with a stun gun during a scuffle with three sheriff’s deputies says his father was a generous and loving man but had recently stopped taking medication for a longtime mental illness.

Hamilton County Sheriff Jim Neil says 59-year-old Gary Roell was stunned in the back after punching a deputy in the face and resisting arrest overnight today in the Cincinnati suburb of Sycamore Township.

Deputies say they responded to a report of Roell breaking a neighbor’s condo windows around 3 a.m. and that he was acting erratically.

Roell’s son, 38-year-old Gary Roell Jr., says his dad had battled schizoaffective disorder for 30 years and was a different person when he was not taking medication.
