BOARDMAN

Northern Strut Twirling teams are celebrating their 19th anniversary this year. They have added a new staff member, Carolyn Aleska. The teams also are preparing students for local collegiate and high school twirling lines and color guard lines. They particpate in community and collegiate parades and rehearse for the Marching Auxiliaries Ohio Classic and National Competition.

Those who have earned the level of collegiate twirling lines are Meghan Susko of Poland, Kent State University Touch of Gold Twirler; Jessica Yozwiak of Boardman, Thiel College feature twirler; and Karlie Kowal of Poland, University of Akron color guard.

Those who have earned high school positions are Monica Mattiussi, Cardinal Mooney twirler; Tara Schuster, Liberty majorette; Madeline Crish, Maria Katsadas, Marissa Melillo and Rachel Stahl, Poland High School majorettes; Autumn Busse, Springfield Local flag line; Emily Combs and Cassidy Oyler, Springfield Local majorettes; and Alyssa Thomas, Western Reserve color guard.

Northern Strut Twirling Teams, established in 1995 under the direction of Janet Gbur, specialize in recreational and competitive baton twirling, flag twirling and drum major instruction for students in preschool through college. The group is located within Astre Total Fitness across from Boardman Park.
