Discussion to cover fracking pros, cons

The Ohio Organizing Collaborative’s Communities United for Responsible Energy campaign has invited the Salem mayor and city council to discuss the “pros, cons and unknowns of horizontal hydraulic fracturing” with all Salem residents.
At 6 p.m. Wednesday in the Quaker Room of the Salem Public Library, 821 E. State St., featured speaker Ted Auch of FrackTracker.org will discuss Salem City Council’s proposal to ban oil and gas drilling within city limits and what it might mean for those living and working in the area.
There will be a question-and-answer session after the meeting.
Farmers National makes scorecard

Bank Director magazine has ranked Farmers National Bank as one of the best banks in the U.S. in its latest scorecard issue.
Farmers ranked 69th among those banks with between $1 billion and $5 billion in assets.
The scorecard ranks banks based on profitability, capitalization and asset quality. Farmers was one of just three Ohio banks to make the scorecard in its category.
Platt to welcome NASCAR series

The Platt Insurance Group will welcome the NASCAR Nationwide series from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday at its offices at 81 W. McKinley Way.
A real NASCAR stock car will be on display, and guests can use a simulator that replicates the driving experience at the event.
Several vehicles will be on hand, including those from the Poland police and fire departments.
Classic cars will be featured, and there will be free ice cream, food and beverages.
Toys for Tots Car Cruise is Saturday

The 15th annual East Palestine Toys for Tots Car Cruise will take place from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday in the city’s downtown.
Classic cars, live music, an art show, auction and raffle will be included in the day’s activities.
Vehicle registration for the car show is free with either a monetary or toy donation to Toys for Tots. Interested parties can pre-register at www.eastpalestinechamber.com or the day of the cruise.
Consumers Bancorp reports net income

Consumers Bancorp stated it had a net income of $679,000 for the fourth fiscal quarter of 2013, which ended June 30.
For the year, the company has announced earnings of $2.7 million with total loans increase by 9.9 percent compared with the previous year and total deposits up by 3.4 percent. Consumers also had gross proceeds of $10 million from a common stock offering in July.
Assets at June 30, 2013, totaled $343.5 million, an increase of $8.7 million from June 30, 2012.
