Youngstown woman says boyfriend hit her and her dog with empty beer bottle
YOUNGSTOWN — Police arrested a man was at a South Side home Sunday
afternoon after his girlfriend said he hit her dog with an empty beer bottle before striking her in the back of the head with it.
James Cummings, 68, was arrested on charges of felonious assault and cruelty to animals after police were called to a 256 E. Philadelphia Ave. home he was at about 3:10 p.m.
His 65-year-old girlfriend told police Cummings had been drinking most of the day and was angry with one of her dogs and threw an empty 40-ounce beer bottle at the dog and hit it.
When the girlfriend yelled at him for throwing the bottle at the dog, he hit her in the back of the head with the bottle, which resulted in a large lump on her head, reports state.
She was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center to be treated for her injuries.
Officers checked on the dog, and he appeared to be unharmed, reports state.
They gave the dog fresh water, and neighbors promised to look after it until its owner came back.
While police were on the way to taking Cummings to jail, reports state Cummings said he “was tired of being a nice guy” and he was thinking of “going downtown and killing everything with a badge. Deputies, cops ... it don’t matter.”
Arraignment information for Cummings was not available late tonight.
