On June 30, Jane Dias Walker of East Palestine was elected state president of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars at the department convention in Perrysburg.

A life member of York Drexler Auxiliary 5532 in Washingtonville, she joined on the eligibility of her husband, the Rev. Dr. Barry M. Walker, chaplain, who served in the Army and Army Reserve for 31 years before retiring in 1996.

Walker’s term is for the 2013-2014 year, which is the organization’s 100th.

She has served at the auxiliary and district levels, was elected district president for the 2007-2008 term and earned the Outstanding District President of the Year award. A department chairwoman for many programs, she earned national recognition.
