Physical-therapy degree

Lauren Blase, daughter of Rick and Joni Blase of Boardman, graduated with a doctorate in physical therapy from the University of Oklahoma in May.

Blase is a graduate of Boardman High School and Youngstown State University.

She passed her board exam in July and is employed at the Oklahoma Surgical Hospital in Tulsa, Okla.

SCOUTS

Earns Eagle award

Patrick O’Brien of Boy Scout Troop 22 chartered to St. Christine Parish in Youngstown, has earned scouting’s highest honor, the Eagle Scout award. The award was presented during an Aug. 2 Mass at St. Christine Church.

O’Brien, son of William and Linda O’Brien of Austintown, has been involved in scouting since 2004. He earned his Bear, Webelo, Arrow of Light and Parvuli Dei religion award in Cub Scout Pack 22 in Youngstown.

He crossed over to Troop 22 in 2007 and has had troop positions of senior patrol leader, patrol leader, assistant patrol leader and quartermaster. He has earned 34 merit badges, four centennial 2010 merit badges, Totin’ Chit, Firem’n Chit and Ad Altare Dei religion awards.

For his Eagle Scout service project, O’Brien planned, coordinated, gathered materials and supervised the construction of a press box at the St. Christine Elementary School football field.

O’Brien is a senior at Ursuline High School, where he is a varsity member of the cross-country and track teams, as well as a member of the marching and concert bands and National Honor Society.

He participates in Students of Stewardship, student ambassadors, and the Sacristan and Liturgy committees. He has participated in the March for Life in Washington, D.C., and a mission trip to Kentucky through the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown.
