Habitat for Humanity to bless 40th home Sunday

Staff report

STRUTHERS

A new home being built on Lincoln Avenue by Habitat for Humanity will be their 40th home in Mahoning County.

Organizers will have a ceremony to bless the ground at 635 Lincoln Ave. at 2 p.m. Sunday, where a home will be built for the Collins and Bell family.

First Energy, Federal Home Loan Bank and Habitat for Humanity ReStore are sponsoring the event.

Because of its location behind the Habitat office and ReStore, it can give visitors and donors a chance to see first-hand how their gifts impact people and change their lives, according to a Habitat press release.

The family that will live in the home has met all income and credit guidelines and also have invested the necessary 400 hours of “sweat equity” by helping crews who are building the home for them.

They will buy the home from Habitat when it is finished with a zero-percent-interest loan.

Volunteers will be on-site later this month, and the first wall will be raised in early September. Work on the home is slated for Wednesdays and Saturdays through the fall and early winter.

Volunteers can call 330-743-7244, ext. 302, for more information.

Habitat is seeking to build four homes in the county and is seeking donors. Anyone interested can call the number above.
