A Mahoning County grand jury indicted two people on murder charges Thursday.
Michael D. Brown, 20, of Mount Vernon Avenue, was indicted on charges of aggravated murder and aggravated robbery in the July 25 shooting death of Daniel Watkins, 19, of Boardman.
Police said Watkins was trying to trade cough syrup for heroin when an argument ensued, and Brown shot Watkins. He was arrested last week for the crime. and is in the county jail.
Also indicted on a charge of murder was Tequila Haskins, 28, of Boardman, for the June 4 stabbing death of her boyfriend, Brian Tubbs, 28, after she returned to the Moyer Avenue home they shared and found Tubbs in bed with another woman. That’s when Haskins got a large kitchen knife and stabbed Tubbs in the arm, chest and throat. Police said Haskins also struck the woman and threw her down the stairs.
Paramedics tried reviving Tubbs on the scene before he was transported to St. Elizabeth Health Center, where he later died. Police believe Tubbs bled out from his chest cavity, and that he lost too much blood by the time he arrived at the hospital. She is also in the county jail.
Those who were indicted will be arraigned later this month before Judge James C. Evans.
The grand jury also issued 13 secret indictments against 12 men and a woman for drug trafficking and gang charges. The identity of those persons will be revealed when they are arrested.
