One of two men arrested in a South Side burglary Tuesday afternoon had several felony warrants.

Arrested after a neighbor flagged down police about two suspicious men running through her backyard on West Woodland Avenue about 2:40 p.m. were Ishmael Sharron Bethel, 18, and Derrick D. Hudson Jr., 20.

Each is charged with burglary. A records check showed that Bethel has warrants for the charges of felonious assault, kidnapping and aggravated robbery.

An officer was flagged down by a woman who said the two men cutting through her yard were carrying a large-screen television, and they carried it to a blue car with two women inside. The car drove off, and the men stayed in the neighborhood, the woman said.

Police checked the area for men matching their description and found Bethel walking across Hillman Avenue near Parkwood Avenue, reports said. When he saw an officer, Bethel began running through several yards until he got to a home in the 200 block of West Woodland Avenue and went inside and slammed the door.

As officers began setting up a perimeter, Hudson appeared in the driveway of that home next to a blue car and was arrested. Police then knocked several times on the door of the home, and when Bethel answered a side door, he was taken into custody, reports said.

Police could see a large-screen television inside the home with a piece of the corner broken off and, during a search, found another flat-screen television, reports said.

Police ran a records check on Bethel and found that he had the warrants, which were for failing to appear at a pretrial hearing July 9 in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court for a 2012 court case, according to court records.

Officers also found a home in the 800 block of Ridge Avenue that had a back door wide open and an empty television stand in the living room. Reports said a window air conditioner was also knocked out of a side window. The homeowner identified one of the televisions at the West Woodland Avenue home as his.

Bethel and Hudson were taken to the Mahoning County jail.
