Police: Baby remains missing after kidnapping

COLUMBIA, Pa. (AP) — Authorities say a 7-month old boy kidnapped from a Philadelphia-area home remains missing after a search of a wooded area in central Pennsylvania turned up no sign of him.

The search followed the arrest of Ummad Rushdi, the boyfriend of the child’s mother, at their home in the York suburbs Wednesday. Police in the Philadelphia suburb of Upper Darby said the boy’s mother told them that Rushdi took the baby early Sunday morning while they were visiting relatives. Police believe the child may have been killed and buried in the York area.

Police spent Wednesday searching a wooded area in Columbia, but did not find 7-month-old Hamza Ali.

Rushdi faces charges that include kidnapping. He was arraigned late Wednesday, but it was unclear whether he was represented by a lawyer.
