Police charge W. Pa. couple with DUI in same car

FREEDOM, Pa.

Police say a western Pennsylvania couple was driving drunk — in the same car, on the same night, after they switched seats shortly before they were pulled over.

Online court records don’t list attorneys for 33-year-old Jason Misencik and 24-year-old Crystal Seachrist, who live together in New Sewickley Township.

They both face a preliminary hearing Aug. 30 on drunken driving and other charges filed recently in connection with a July 4 traffic stop.

The Beaver County Times reports that’s when police saw Misencik swerving before he pulled into a parking lot and could be seen switching seats with Seachrist, who was driving when police pulled over the car moments later.

Police say both smelled of alcohol and were incapable of safe driving and that Misencik’s blood-alcohol content exceeded the state limit though Seachrist’s was slightly below.

Police: Pa. woman changed market’s price stickers

NEW BRIGHTON, Pa.

Police say a western Pennsylvania woman was caught black-handed stealing from a supermarket.

The Beaver County Times reports 55-year-old Kimberly Ann Bryan’s hands had black marks on them from the felt pen she purportedly used to write lower prices on stickers she was putting on items at the New Brighton Foodland.

Police estimate Bryan marked down the items in her cart by nearly $69. They say she was caught while checking out at the store July 25. She faces a preliminary hearing Aug. 29.

Online court records don’t list an attorney for Bryan, who reportedly asked police to have some sympathy for her and claimed she’s on medication and sometimes blacks out and doesn’t realize what she’s doing.

New Brighton is about 30 miles northwest of Pittsburgh.

4-year-old mayor is re-elected in northern Minnesota town

DORSET, Minn.

Robert “Bobby” Tufts hasn’t made it to preschool yet, but he’s already been elected twice as mayor of a tiny tourist town in northern Minnesota.

Mayor Tufts’ name was picked Sunday during the annual Taste of Dorset festival to be mayor of Dorset for a second term. It has no formal city government and has a population of 22 to 28, depending on whether the minister and his family are in town.

Anyone could vote as many times as they like — for $1 a vote — at any of the ballot boxes in stores around town. The proceeds go toward organizing the festival.

Bobby was only 3 when he won election last year. His mother, Emma Tufts, said she and her son, who turns 5 in October, got choked up when his name was pulled for re-election Sunday.
