Man finds weapons behind his garage

youngstown

An East Side man told police he found several weapons behind his garage about 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Officers were called to the 400 block of North Garland Avenue, where the home-owner told them he went behind his garage for the first time in five years and found a concrete wall that had partially caved in and his lawn mower missing.

The man also said he found packages wrapped in plastic bags and the barrel of a long gun sticking out, which is when he called police.

An officer came and opened the packages and found two 12-gauge shotguns, two AR-15 assault rifles, a 7.62 mm submachine gun, several shotgun shells and 5.56 mm and .223-caliber ammunition

The weapons and ammunition were taken to the police station and stored as evidence, reports said.

Road closing

NORTH LIMA

A stretch of state Route 46 between Cook and West Middletown roads in Beaver Township will close for 14 days starting today as a culvert is replaced.

The culvert is part of a $750,000 project to add turning lanes and a pedestrian tunnel to improve school-traffic safety in the South Range School District. The Ohio Department of Transportation plans to have the work completed by late October.

Woman is cited for leaving scene

youngstown

Police cited an Akron woman about 2:10 a.m. Wednesday for leaving the scene of an accident and driving with a suspended license.

Officers were called to East Midlothian Boulevard on the South Side for a report of a woman bleeding from her forehead. When they arrived, they found Lisa C. Andrews, 23, being attended to by paramedics.

Reports said Wilson told paramedics she was assaulted on Hilton Avenue but when asked what happened, she refused to say anything else.

She told paramedics she got to her location after crashing her car, which fit the description of a car that was involved in a hit-and-run accident nearby. She was cited for failure to stop after an accident, driving under suspension and failure to control. She was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center to be treated for her injuries.
