Jim Furyk seizes PGA lead with 65; Tiger Woods at 71

PITTSFORD, N.Y. (AP) — Jim Furyk has seized the lead at the PGA Championship with a 5-under 65 in the opening round.

The 43-year-old American rolled in a long birdie putt at the 16th — his seventh hole of today's opening round — and pushed his score to 6 under until a stumble at the ninth left him with his only bogey at Oak Hill. He shook his head after missing a putt to save par, but couldn't complain much about the way he played on a course softened by overnight rain.

Canadian journeyman David Hearn is one stroke back after starting with a 66. Four players, including Matt Kuchar, are at 67.

Tiger Woods played his first nine holes at 2-under 33. But he finished with a double-bogey for a 71.
