WARREN
Warren will receive $1.1 million in federal Community Development Block Grant money for this year, and the city and Trumbull County will share an additional $443,687 in HOME program grants.
U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan of Niles, D-13th, announced the annual allocation from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in a press release Monday.
“This money will give our community safer, quality housing and expanded economic opportunities for our neighbors,” Ryan said.
The CDBG program provides annual grants to develop urban communities by providing decent housing and suitable living environments as well as providing low and moderate income people with expanded economic opportunities.
The HOME program funds housing programs with a goal of expanding the supply of affordable housing for low- and moderate-income families.
Mike Keys, community development director for the city, said 15 percent of the city’s CDBG allotment goes through nonprofit organizations and the rest is used by the city.
The funding is a similar amount each year and will be used in a similar way as last year, Keys said.
