Warren man arraigned on robbery, kidnapping
Staff report
WARREN
Carl D. Washington, 24, of Peace Avenue Northwest, who has been indicted on federal and state charges in the past month, was arraigned on state charges Monday.
Judge Peter Kontos of Trumbull County Common Pleas Court ordered Washington held in the county jail in lieu of $100,000 bond on charges of aggravated robbery, two counts of kidnapping and one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm — all relating to a May 18 incident in Warren.
Washington pleaded innocent.
Police say a Logan Street Southeast woman reported that Washington held her 17-year-old daughter against the wall of her home, with one hand around her throat and his other hand holding a gun to her head while demanding money.
Eventually, Washington and a second man involved spotted cash in the home, took it, and drove off in a car.
Washington is due to be transferred soon into federal custody to be arraigned Aug. 15 in U.S. District Court, Youngstown, on a charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm for an incident May 30.
Washington is not allowed to carry a firearm because of a January 2010 incident in which he fired a gun close to a 31-year-old Warren man.
The resident said he followed Washington and two other men in his car from in front of his house to take their picture to give to police, because he suspected the men were dealing drugs.
After firing the gun, Washington fled on foot, breaking into a house on Olive Street in the process. Washington was sentenced to three years in prison in that case.
