The Mahoning County Juvenile Court’s court-appointed special-advocate program is seeking volunteers. The volunteers are appointed as guardians ad litem for dependent children in the court after completing 30 hours of classroom instruction from a national curriculum concerning abused and neglected children. The volunteers agree to follow one case for one year, averaging 10 to 15 hours of service per month. At the end of their investigation, CASA volunteers must present a written recommendation to the court as to where the child or children should live. Call 330-740-2239 by Aug. 17 for information.
Crash kills woman
HANOVER, PA.
A 31-year-old East Liverpool woman died in a one-car accident on state Route 30 in this Beaver County township. State police said Tina L. Haag was driving her 2004 Dodge Caravan east on Route 30 about 7 a.m. Saturday when she lost control, went off the side of the road and her vehicle hit a utility pole. Haag, ejected from her vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Beaver County Coroner’s Office. An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
DQ Miracle Treats
Dairy Queen and Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals are celebrating DQ Miracle Treat Day on Thursday, when $1 or more of every Blizzard Treat purchased at participating Dairy Queen locations during store hours will be donated to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, including Akron Children’s Hospital in Akron and Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley. All donations raised by Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals stay in the communities in which they are raised to support local children. I-376 resurfacing
WEST MIDDLESEX, PA.
About 4.4 miles of Interstate 376 in Shenango Township, Mercer County, will be resurfaced this year between the Interstate 80 interchange and the Lawrence County line, PennDOT has announced. The entire $1.3 million project cost is being paid by the state. Work is expected to begin Aug. 19 and be completed Oct. 8. Traffic will be controlled by signs and lane restrictions, but no detours will be needed.
