Pilgrim virgin statue to be displayed Aug. 15-25 in Valley
Staff report
The United Nations International Pilgrim Virgin Statue will be displayed Aug. 15-25 in the Mahoning Valley.
The statue is used to promote a message of prayer, penance and reparation. This is the message Our Lady gave to the three children at the Cova di Ira on May 13, 1917, in Fatima Portugal.
The statue is one of four carved out of solid block of cedar by Jose Thedein in 1947 to the specifications of Sister Lucia, the sole surviving seer of the apparitions. The image was blessed by Pope Pius XII on May 13,1947. The statue was brought to the United States on Dec. 8, 1952. The statue’s name is derived from the Meditation Room of the United Nations, where it was shown by Monsignor Harold Colgan, founder of the Blue Army of Our Lady of Fatima.
The visit is sponsored by the World Apostolate of Fatima, Warren-Youngstown Division. For information, visit www.thefatimastatue.org and www.babsbakery.com/conventions.
