Firefighters battled fires at two vacant South Side homes Thursday and early Friday morning.

Crews were called to 214 S. Glenellen Ave. about 10:25 a.m. Thursday and found smoke coming out of the windows. Firefighters were quickly able to put the fire out. Neighbors said the home has been vacant for some time and neighborhood kids have been breaking in. Reports said the blaze started in the basement.

Damaged is estimated at $6,000.

At 12:10 a.m. today, crews were called to 205 E. Philadelphia Ave. and found a home engulfed in flames. That home was allowed to burn down. Damage is listed at $12,500.

No one was injured in either blaze.
